Amma, Tell Me About Ganesha – Children’s Book Review

Informative and engaging. Like all other books in the “Amma, Tell Me” series by Bhakti Mathur.

As the name suggests, “Amma, Tell Me About Ganesha!” is the story of Ganesha. Klaka and Kiki, two siblings, are curious about the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and they ask their Amma (mother) about it. Amma narrates the magical story of his birth, why he is the first god to be worshipped before embarking on any new venture, how he fought Shiva and got his elephant face.

Colorful, and attractive, this one is a great read for kids below 8 years age group. It tells the story in a language that’s easily understood by young kids. Speaking of Hindu mythology, Ganesha anyways is a god loved a lot by younger kids. Many children find the stories and antics of young Ganesha funny and entertaining. I remember how much my son used to laugh listening to stories of Bad Ganesha when he was younger :).

Ganesh Chaturthi is starting tomorrow and in case you are looking to start the celebration by reading a story to your little one, you may give this book a try. The only word of caution (esp. for very young kids below 5 years age group) would be that there are scenes in the book where the illustrator has shown little blood and some action. The story demands the same.  As we know, beheading is a part of the story where one needs to explain how he got his elephant head.

Otherwise, this book is a treat to the eyes and a beautiful one like every other book in this series.

We loved it and we hope you will enjoy reading it too. In case you would like to check out the read-aloud version of the book, there is one available by the author directly on YouTube. You may listen to it here.
